Artisanal Moorings
This course describes a romantic understanding of art through historical and philosophical literature, and examines its apparent deformation into mechanism or careerism. Drawing on authors such as Eugene McCarraher (The Enchantments of Mammon: How Capitalism Became the Religion of Modernity) and David Lewis-Williams (The Mind in the Cave: Consciousness and the Origins of Art), this course offers relief to those who resist the relentless spectre of capital.
